Pulling out of Big Bend was a tad sad this morning. Our days there had been fun & we so love the big sky & towering rock formations. Such an incredibly “Texan” view. But north we went to get groceries & hit the 20 to head EAST!
About 60 miles north of Lajitas we had our first border patrol check point! Guards approached each side of the car & asked us “how many people in the car & were we all US citizens?” Not too tough, guess we looked innocent enough with the cat & dog.
The topography did not change until we were north of I 10 & began to see irrigated grass for cattle. Also the return of the oil wells. A massive gas piping project is underway south of Monahans, causing the area to look very “construction zone”. RV parking lots are packed with workers! Doesn’t add to the appeal.
Wish I could explain why there are 3800 acres of sand dunes in the middle of Texas. Totally weird but fun. Lots of sand sliding, like snowboarding or sledding. Kids, youths & dogs are having a great time. Beautiful place to spend the night. We will be going east on 20, stopping near Abilene. At some point soon, we have to decide if our Natchez plans are compromised by the flooding.
