We have been on the road four days now & are a bit weary of it. Texas is still enjoying spring break so the campgrounds have been crowded. Oil country & scrub plains have been our views & let’s not forgot the hour & half it took to drive through Dallas/Ft Worth metro area. Thankfully, it was Sunday. The traffic was heavy to us, but imagine it was relatively light!
The highlight of our trip was dinner with Phil & Marilyn Scott, friends from our Iowa days, currently living in Dallas. They drove 90 miles east to join us for a lovely Tex-Mex meal. Wonderful to reconnect & catch-up!
Northern Louisiana is gorgeous. Spring is here; the redbuds & Bradford pears are blooming. The rolling green terrain reminds us so much of our beautiful NC. Water is standing along the interstate, but we made a good call to go east on 20. Interstate 10 will be closed several more days!
Our first night out of Texas was Jimmie Davis State Park near Monroe, LA. The park is on 6400 acre Caney Lake, just gorgeous! As soon as we saw our campsite, we looked at each other & said “we gotta stay another night!” Beautiful views of the lake on three sides & no other campers in sight, a welcome relief. The park in Natchez was able to change our arrival date, so we have had a beautiful rest in the woods. The weather has been perfect & we have enjoyed cooking & eating outside & watching the sun rise & set on the lake.
