Life in NC with friends & family is certainly fun. We had a big birthday weekend planned for Lathan, he turned 34 on April 18! Who could have guessed we would all get this old! Saturday was a beautiful day! Lathan & Finley (Kaitlyn was taking care of their sick puppy) met us at Mayfair for our long awaited 3D viewing of Jungle Book! The movie was wonderfully done & we loved the new interpretations.
Life was busy while my phone was silenced for the movie! Mom had fallen again but was apparently not badly injured, just a scraped elbow. Unfortunately, Avery was not so lucky! She fell also & Phil spent another afternoon in the ER waiting for treatment while he was supposed to be moving! After many hours & quite a bit of drama, Avery was released with a cracked collar bone & a lovely blue sling to wear. Deb, Emma & I were texting furiously trying to figure out & arrange the extra care she might need. As always, wonderful Deb rose to the challenge & spent the night with her. I decided to leave at 8 Sunday morning to spend the day with her.
Lathan’s birthday celebration was on as planned! Yahoo! We had a wonderful evening cooking steaks at their house. Harper (puppy) was very quiet but did join us for some of the festivities. That sweet pup got much worse during the night. Kaitlyn was at the emergency vet when they opened at 10 on Sunday morning! After being there all day, Harper was transferred (by Kaitlyn) to the trauma vet for exploratory surgery! Stressful to say the least. Once again, I wanted to be in two places at the same day. Avery was doing very well so eventually, I gave up the battle & returned to Wilmington. Poor, poor pup had made a mess of her intestines by ingesting way too much towel! Whew! Anxiously waiting for the news of the surgery nearly did us all in. The attachment we have with our pets is amazing! The news was good - Harper was going to make it! Kaitlyn nearly overdid herself transferring Harper from one vet to the other & general worrying about her baby. Harper was released Monday evening to a very grateful family.
Edward & I were on puppy duty for Tuesday. Could we manage to get ready for another foray into the national forest & keep up with a sick pup? Of course, we did! That’s what grandparents are for, right? It was really fun to have a puppy again & Harper is one sweet girl.
