After 14 wonderful days in the Croatan, forest service rules forced us to move on. We had a wonderful lay over in Hampstead to visit mom, dine with Camille & Dean & reconnect with Lathan & Kaitlyn. It was too short, but our reservations had been made!
Morrow Mountain is beautiful. We have heard from many RV travelers that NC’s state parks suck. Well, not so! They are gorgeous. The complaint stems from lack of services. Few, if any, sites have electricity or water. The parks do have a central source of water & an RV dumping station. The upside to that is very few RVs are willing to tough it. Our campground loop has 3 occupied sites out of 38! Yahoo!
This is our first experience living off our solar panels & we are looking forward to it. A Honda whisper quiet generator has been added to our equipment list & it really is quiet! It has not been needed yet, but comforting to have a backup. With the solar panels & propane to run the stove, heater (it was 45 last night!) & refrigerator, we should be fine. Coffee making has changed a bit. Water must be boiled & dripped the old fashion way! The Cuisinart pulls too many amps for the inverter. So far, so good!
500 million years ago these foothills were the highest mountains in the country at 20,000 feet. The peak has been reduced to 1000 feet. Watch out Rockies, time will get you too! The park has 17 miles of hiking trails & we plan to start exploring today!
