Knowing our time in Asheville was running out, we wanted to cover a lot of ground on Monday. Several campgrounds were begging to be checked out & the Forest Heritage Scenic Byway beckoned. The idea was to head south on the Parkway, pick up Hwy 276 to Brevard, then head west & north on 215 to get back on the parkway. We enjoyed every scenic overlook & took over 100 photos! Too many, too many. But seriously, the views are so unbelievable, we had to! Along the way, we enjoyed hiking to several fantastic waterfalls. Transylvania County really lives up to “The Land of Waterfalls.” Some of the ones in NC rival the gorgeous waterfalls of Hawaii.
The Pisgah Inn was our lunch destination but we arrived a half hour too soon. With so many vistas calling, we moved on, thinking Brevard would have a great eating spot. Anne Babb hooked us up with the Mayberry Sandwich shop! Really yummy & I appreciated the gluten free bread! Good coffee as well!
Hwy 215 was just as beautiful as the Parkway but a lot more climbing. Beasley (the truck) did a great job but we were mighty glad not to be towing the Airstream on those twisting curves! As always, we wore ourselves out being tourists. But it sure is fun!
