Wow! Another hidden wonder! Wanting to make the drive home from Asheville in two days, we chose Dreher Island, SC as our layover. This gorgeous campground is in the middle of Lake Murray, north of Columbia. Lake Murray was created in the 20’s to provide hydroelectric power to SC. When completed, it was the largest earthen dam & the largest man-made reservoir in the world! Go South Carolina! 50,000 acres of beautiful water! We are now in love with camping by the water. Watching the water creates such peace. Add sunshine & a gentle breeze – perfect camping!
Dreher Island has been a welcoming place to do nothing but sit, read & relax. We have thrown a few walks in & a couple of good meals but low key has been the theme of our stay here. Definitely a do-over. Our part of the world is filled with beautiful places. Let’s get out & explore!
