Go on tasting tours! Yahoo! A Beautiful sunny day beckons & we decide to have a date day! Edward has chosen our winery & luncheon stops & we are off!
Our first stop was the Copper Oven to have artisan wood fired pizzas. We choose summer bounty with creme fraiche, fresh corn & tomatoes! Yumskie!
Now that our stomachs were nourished, we could begin the serious business of tasting the local wines. The glacial soil around the Finger Lakes is perfect for growing grapes & the vineyards are everywhere! Seriously, one could not stop at them all. Wine Enthusiast Magazine listed this region as one of the top ten wine destinations in the the world! Over 220,000 cases of Riesling are produced here each year.
The Cayuga Ridge Estate Winery was our first & favorite. You pay your $3 & get to taste 6 varieties of wine. Quite a deal, especially since we had to bring some home! Lucas Winery was a bit more commercial but still fun. $3 bought 7 wine tastings there, but only one bottle came home with us. I had to take a breather at this point, so we headed to get hand made ice cream.
We decided to pace ourselves & head home. After all, we have a week to go!
PS to all Jason Isbell devotees: Decoration Day (Memorial Day) started here in 1866 after a local farmer watched two widows tending graves from the Civil War.
