Another gorgeous but cold day dawned in paradise as we enjoyed our coffee & relaxed with our laptops. Jeez Louise, tranquility did not last long. Our lovely Netgear mobile Wi-Fi provider went from 1.34 GB to 2.45 in about 30 secs of internet use on 1 device! Panic swept in! 2.5 GB a day is about 75 GB a month & I can’t do math well enough to tell you what that costs. Though, it is pretty close to a mortgage payment! ATT was no help determining the spike or why the Wi-Fi device does not sync with account data usage online. For some reason, the Netgear does not display accurately which is bothersome.
We spent the better part of the day, trying to figure out how to reduce our usage. Dragging music & Spanish lessons from the computer to the iPod is all we can come up with. Not sure how much by- passing iTunes will help, but it is a start. It took Edward over an hour to get our iPod to pair with Bessie’s Bluetooth, adding insult to injury. But we will prevail!
Monitoring internet usage is not pleasant & it brings up interesting issues about how we spend our time. Good, bad or indifferent, we both like our devices. We are on this journey to enjoy ourselves & pinching data doesn’t suit either of us mentally. But having a $300 a month data plan seems a tad “out there”. Guess we might become those folks at Starbucks hogging a big table with their stuff spread about. Now if we could just find a Starbucks…..
On a happier note, we have relocated to a waterfront lot. Very nice & the views are expansive. With the colder temperatures it is nice to be in the sun! We walked on the “low road” by the dam to get closer to the water. We have yet to see the big alligator, but we look closely when we walk past his wallow. Boy, lots of dedicated fisher people. Hip boots or no, that water has got to be cold! We enjoy walking regardless of the temperature; it is nice to be outside!
Much love to everyone. We miss you & enjoy hearing from you.
