Oh boy, we love a travel day! It is fun to stow everything inside, pack the truck & hitch up. The excitement begins when we pull out & beam up our new campground on google! Today’s trip was a very easy 2.5 hours. Another cool aspect of St. Joe's is James went through here on his bike trip!
The state park is at the tip of St Joseph’s Peninsula, very wild & beautiful. The temp was close to 60 but the winds were over 20 mph! At one point the road ran right along the gulf with a massive seawall to keep the surf from crashing on the road. Wish I could have captured it! The waves were pounding over the rocks & the road was covered in sea foam. A little scary! We both decided this was one place we would evacuate if told to!
Dogs are limited in their access here so we chose a bay shore hike that welcomed pups. It was also less windy! A very grey day but the sandy walk along the water was lovely. This park does regular prescribed burns so most of the palms & pines are burnt 15-20 feet up the trunk. The rhisome is the only part of the smaller palms that survives a fire.
Maggie was left in Bessie so we could venture to see the wild gulf. The sound of the surf & the palms rattling reminded us of hurricanes! I really wanted to see it for myself. Don’t think the pictures capture it, but if you look closely, the red flag is straight out & the beach is covered with foam.
As always, hoping for bluer skies & less wind tomorrow.
Love to you all. We miss you; let us hear from you.
