Today was a travel day & like all of them, filled with excitement & anticipation. The journey to our next park was just over 3 hours & that left us plenty of time to set up camp & enjoy the new place. We traveled through Murphy (Murphy to Manteo) along the Ocoee River & Lake in TN. The river bed is dry because of the drought & TVA controlling the water flow. But wow, the river bed was filled with boulders. Easy to see why it is such a hot spot for white water sports. Not sure what is happening with that now. The high point of the drive was following a vintage 1978, 31 ft International Airstream for 30-40 miles. Super fun! The heavy interstate traffic around Chattanooga took us by surprise. Guess we have been on back mountain roads too long. Edward is always a careful driver but those semis make me nervous!
Cloudland Canyon is in Dade County, GA, as close to TN & AL as you can get. Truly beautiful! GA state parks are non-specific site reservable. Basically, you are guaranteed a site but you pick your own when you arrive. We like it; we can drive around & choose what appeals to us. This park was designed with privacy & space in mind & there are many nice sites. So much easier than trying to decide on line.
The afternoon was beautiful & we spent the day under the awning & cooking burgers on the grill. A campfire completed a perfect gypsy day.
Edward celebrates 68 years tomorrow so we'll be celebrating in some way!
