Today is a tribute to FDR & his brilliant creation, the CCC. Not only did his program give employment to nearly 3,000,000 young men during the Great Depression, the CCC restored an America ravaged by the rapid industrialization of the early 20th century. Those men planted 3 billion trees, built 800 parks & restored 3980 historical sites. If that wasn’t enough they battled forest fires! The men were given $5 a month with most of their wages sent home to save their families.
The beautiful buildings & bridges they built are still strong & in use today. What a legacy of greatness and success; cooperation between federal & state governments for the good of America! FDR gets my vote for President! I love the parks & wild places his program preserved for all of us.
O’Leno is on the Santa Fe River which goes underground for three miles before reappearing in the River Rise State Park. Each day 900,000,000 gallons of water go underground, traveling through submerged limestone caves. Florida seems famous for sinkholes & we saw several today. Interesting concept, here today & gone tomorrow. Watch out for bargains in Florida real estate!==
The deciduous trees are still bare but spring is coming for sure. A week of 70+ degree weather will bring spring wild flowers soon!
