As fortune would have it, we find ourselves near Daytona Beach during the Daytona Rolex 24 hour marathon racing event. Gratefully, the speedway is 20 mins away, so we don't hear it. The campground is filled with fans enjoying the weekend!
We are happy to relax & enjoy what the park has to offer. The Timucua village of Nocoroco was located on this land in the 1600’s when Mexia explored this area for Spain. It is beautiful spot with abundant resources from both rivers. The Seminole Wars were the end of their tranquility.
We have been told that bobcat sightings are frequent; we have not been blessed. But I continue to hope. This area between the two rivers is a birder’s paradise, over 160 species have been documented!
One of the coolest park features is the store on the banks of the Tomoka. They rent canoes & kayaks, sell beer & coffee & essential camping items. The views from the café are breathtaking. Now, if they just cooked hamburgers!
