Lake Kissimmee just might be our favorite Florida Park. After 3-4 campsites that were less than ideal, we hit the jackpot again. Even though it is spring break, we can not see any aluminum. The layout is perfect & designed for privacy between sights. More huge live oaks filled with epiphytes! We love it!
This 6000 acre park has not one, but three lakes, 13 miles of hiking trails, AND a cowboy camp!!! What is not to love? We have been hiking a lot & our legs are letting us know we are not ready for CO. The picnic/marina area has an observation tower and we decided to try it out for star gazing. The biggest challenge was navigating the pitch black trail through the woods to reach the tower. Our flashlight was pretty puny against all that darkness. The sky was absolutely gorgeous, & surprisingly, we had the place to ourselves. It was a beautiful evening; we were rewarded with clear views of the southern sky & the brilliant winter hexagon. Edward was a little rusty but it all came back to him. A very different evening from the usual painting & guitar playing.
Our dear Maggie is no longer a hiker. Sad to say, but after a mile she is just worn out. So, she has several camp ground loop walks a day & stays home "to guard the house" when we leave. I am pretty sure she is already tired of her new job.
