Wow! What a spring. Family, mountains, rain; family, mountains & more rain. Our semi-annual stay at Lake Powhatan was already scheduled before Lathan & Kaitlyn moved to Asheville in March but visiting them sweetened the deal. James & Glenda’s surprise visit for Mother’s Day really topped off a wonderful family time. Davis & Anne met us for a great day of hiking in Pisgah Nat. Forest & a fabulous picnic on the Parkway. The valleys were lush & green while winter still reigned at the higher elevations.
We managed to have another magnificent family meal at our favorite restaurant, Curate. The Asheville street scene is something to experience. Edward could hardly take ten steps before being asked for money by someone! Plenty of creative folks making music, juggling; whatever they can do to make some change. Festive for certain.
James & Glenda were with us another week, so a mountain cabin near Bryson City became our home. Spreading out was relaxing & coffee on the porch looking out at the Smokies was a great way to start each morning. Hikes & relaxing at the cabin (& the hot tub) filled our days & too soon it was time to leave. James & Glenda headed back to PA & we headed to Linville Falls.
Linville Falls is a gorgeous area, filled with great hikes. Our favorite was Pine Gap Trail which descended to a lovely water fall area. Lathan, along with Oliver & Otis, joined us for that one. Well off the beaten path & very steep! The pups love swimming but the current was so swift, Lathan had to keep them tethered!
The Smoky Mountains are a wonderful place in May even if it rains 15 inches in 18 days! Maybe next year will be dryer.
