Journeying to Canada to view Niagara Falls was the adventure of the day. Niagara Falls is much more dramatic from Canada because you can see The American Falls, Bridal Falls & the incredible full breadth (2700 ft) of Horseshoe Falls . 637,000 gallons of the Niagara River's water pours over these three falls every second!!! 90% of that water flows over Horseshoe Falls! Hard to fathom but the roar is incredible & the river is wild & beautiful. The mist created by that much water plummeting 167 feet creates a constant "rainfall". The Niagara River's startling green color comes from the 60 tons of dissolved minerals that are swept over the falls every minute! Beautiful!
A lovely paved avenue runs along the river, allowing the tourist to stroll & view the falls at their own pace. In the US park, there are 3-4 major viewing platforms so it seems more congested & packed.
The diversity of people enjoying Niagara Falls was refreshing. The English language was not the dominant one! It felt wonderful to be united with people from around the globe; everyone in awe of the falls.
The Queen Victoria Place offered stellar views of Horseshoe Falls from the patio as well as delicious food. It is designated as one of Canada's Heritage Restaurants, meaning 90% of the food is sourced locally. Our meal was delicious & we lingered over coffee just to enjoy the view.
After strolling the mile back to the car, enjoying the falls a second time, we headed across the bridge to the USA. Customs was interesting. An officer & his canine buddy walked back & forth among the cars in line. Several other officers walked around, talking with random drivers. The dog was interested enough in the car in front of us to warrant a trunk search. Fun to watch, but nothing was found. Our customs officer was friendly & nice. He loves to vacation at Bald Head Island! Small world indeed.
