Wow, we have been in blistering heat for a couple of weeks (like a great many of our friends) but gosh, we did not expect mid 90’s this far north! Thankfully, we have had electric hookups so far & have spent today changing to private parks for the next two weeks. The state parks are generally our choice, but we have to have air conditioning when you live in an aluminum box & the temps are soaring. Hoping Maine will be cooler.
Chenango Valley State Park hosted us for a very long July fourth holiday. Falling mid-week allowed campers to choose their weekend. It was crazy wild with huge camping parties, massive connecting tarps & kids everywhere! Staying cool & finding quiet was the goal of our holiday. Seriously, you know, we always have fun & enjoy ourselves. Another delicious meal at the iconic Moosewood Vegetarian Restaurant in Ithaca, NY was a highlight. So was the nice bowl of ice cream we had to cool off after we toured downtown.
Schodack Island State Park is in the middle of the Hudson River south of Albany. We have enjoyed the spacious private sites & the beautiful waterfront area. The Mohicans called this area home until they sold it in 1670. In the late 19th & early 20th centuries, the island was home to several ice houses. Entrepreneurs used the storage areas to grow mushrooms when electricity made ice houses irrelevant. Now we can all enjoy the lovely island in the Hudson.
